If you are looking for a place to serve the people of Fidalgo Island, SanJuan County and Island counties please consider becoming a Red Cross Volunteer.

Expanded training and mentoring is available and encouraged to all Islands Red Cross Volunteers.

SERVICE TO THE ARMED FORCES (SAF):

The Islands Chapter of the American Red Cross is actively seeking volunteers interested in becoming Service to the Armed Forces volunteers.  The SAF volunteer is a compassionate problem solver who employs quality communications skills with close attention to detail to relieve the stress of military families during their times of crisis.

In the SAF Department, volunteers at the Islands Chapter have the ability to provide services to the Armed Forces and their families in the community or with the Naval Hospital at NAS Whidbey.

Our chapter is currently seeking qualified volunteers for several positions; please contact our SAF Director, Nina Barron at 360-675-2912.  These positions will work mainly with the Oak Harbor office and the NAS Whidbey Naval Hospital.

DISASTER SERVICES:
Disaster Action Team volunteers-Red Cross volunteers on the Disaster Action Team provide emergency, day-or-night assistance to those affected by disaster in their communities. Teams are comprised of client caseworkers, disaster health specialist and a public information officer.  Required training is free. Valid driver’s license required. Client Caseworker- The Client Caseworker continues with a disaster client offering support and additional assistance as needed and available. Required training is free.

Mass Care-Mass Care encompasses the roles of sheltering and feeding. Shelter workers ensure a safe and secure place for those affected by disaster. Feeding provides snacks, beverages and meals to those affected as well as Red Cross volunteers. Day to day tasks include maintaining supplies, menu planning and feeding agreements. Required training is free. Valid driver’s license required.

Material and Support Services Volunteer-Provide transportation, facilities and supply support to all functions on a disaster relief operation. Vehicle maintenance, supply inventory and relief planning are ongoing MSS activities. Required training is free. Valid driver’s license required.

Disaster Mental Health Professional- Volunteers provide mental health-related service during disaster operations and whenever needed for clients and Red Cross emergency volunteers. Valid state professional license required.

Disaster Health Service Professional-Provide emergency and preventive health services to Red Cross personnel and those affected by disaster. All Health Services volunteers must have current license or certificate in their professional field. HS worker must be available following major community emergencies.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Health & Safety Instructors - Instructors needed to teach CPR, 1st Aid, and other related classes. We are currently looking for instructors for day, evening and weekend shifts. Unpaid training is required. To apply contact Health & Safety Services at: 360-675-2912

Health & Safety Clerks – Prepares materials and equipment for check out, preps classrooms for instructors, maintains the equipment, manages ordering of materials and supplies, answers registration calls and questions, some bookkeeping skills preferred.  To apply, contact Health & Safety Services at: 360-75-2912

Health & Safety Marketing Volunteers- Volunteers will work with H&S Director to develop an aggressive marketing campaign for H&S Classes and products.  This position is ideal for marketing students seeking an internship. Please contact Health & Safety Services at: 360-675-2912

FUNDRAISING/FUND DEVELOPMENT

Grant Database Assistant - Assist Red Cross in delivering mission by raising funds to provide relief to victims of disaster. Your key responsibilities will be to increase the number of potential funding sources for various Red Cross Programs and services by conducting research via internet, telephone book, or other resources. Prepare a database of potential funding sources by entering data into Excel spreadsheets from written and online resources. Must have computer and internet skills.

Professional Grant Writers –Assist Red Cross staff in grant writing.  Volunteer should have excellent written and oral communication skills and previous successful non-profit grant writing experience. Must have computer and internet skills

Fundraising Committee:  Group of volunteers interested in developing and planning annual events for the Islands Chapter.

SUPPORT SERVICES:

Receptionists – Answer incoming calls and direct them to the appropriate staff and direct visitors.  Clean, neat, professional appearance and a friendly demeanor are a must.  Outgoing personalities help us make the best first impression on our clients and customers.  Must enjoy working with the public.

Graphic Artists – Assist Red Cross in design and production of special events posters, invitations, website graphics and other events on an as needed basis.

Data Entry Clerks – Input of data into our systems for tracking purposes.  Training is provided. Must have computer and internet skills

Other Chapter Opportunities

Would you like to volunteer but can only give an hour or two of your time?  How about some of these…

Gardening/ground work – Task will take 1-2volunteers approximately 3 hours to complete.  Weeding, garbage pick-up/removal, landscaping.

Janitorial duties -  Bathrooms, vacuuming, kitchen clean up, general tidying of office
