Get Prepared!
5 Actions for Emergency Preparedness
- Make a Plan – Planning ahead is the first step to a calmer and more assured disaster response. Discuss where to go and who to call with your family, and practice your plan.
- Build a Kit – What you have on hand when a disaster happens can make a big difference! Plan to store enough supplies for everyone in your household for at least three days.
- Get Trained – Learning simple first aid techniques can give you the skills and confidence to help anyone in you home, your neighborhood and at work.
- Volunteer – Few Americans are untouched by Red Cross services—-all made possible by volunteers, who are people just like you. Our communities need our help. There are so many needs and so many ways to serve… can’t you offer a few hours a month to help? Call our office to sign up!
- Give Blood – Blood is needed in times of emergency, but the ongoing need is also great.
Out of Area Contact Cards
The American Red Cross- Island County Chapter now has Out-of-Area Contact Cards.
Why do you need an out of area contact? Local phone systems and cell phone overload and shut down in a disaster. However, you can sometimes place a long-distance call.
The information placed on the card is for the carrier to use when they are affected by a disaster, to inform a family member living outside the impacted area about how they are doing and if the carrier needs help.
The cards are wallet size with the information listed below.
Side One: Out of Area Contact Person
Name (print):
Phone Number (with area code):
Cell phone number (with area code):
Side two: Disaster Meeting Place
